Why the Corn-Husk Doll Has No Face

A doll grew so proud of her own reflection that her face was gently taken away.

Long ago, the story is told among the Haudenosaunee (Iroquois) people, the Corn Spirit made a doll from corn husks to play with the children. The doll had a beautiful face and everyone praised her, until she grew so proud she thought only of her own reflection.

As a gentle lesson, her lovely face was taken away. That is why, to this day, many corn-husk dolls are made with no face at all — a reminder that what matters is kindness, not looks.
